1107 Lictoria

This minor planet was named after the city of Littoria, Italy. The city has since been renamed Latina, because of fascist connotations. The city was founded under the Italian fascist government, and was named after the fascio littorio (Italian) or fasces lictores (Latin), more commonly known as the fasces, today a common symbol of authoritarian fascism but in ancient times a more neutral symbol of civilization and the rule of law.

The symbol of this minor planet is a simple representation of the fasces: an axe with a long handle that overlaps a tall narrow box with an X crossing over it. This represents a bundle of sticks tied around an axe in the center.

For another asteroid name with Italian fascist connotations, see Sabauda.
