1227 Geranium

This minor planet is named after a diverse genus of flowering plants common in Europe. The name is derived from the Greek word for crane, because the part of the plant that flings seeds away looks somewhat like a crane's neck.

The symbol for this minor planet is the backwards-S shape from the symbol for the constellation Grus, with five short lines radiating from the top of its head, representing the five petals and five seed cells of the plant.

This is one of the eight minor planets acronymically named after Gustav Stracke.
