200 Dynamene

This minor planet is named after a nereid from Greek myth, mentioned in Hesiod's Theogony. She is one of the many daughters of Nereus and Doris, and is associated with Pherusa (not this one) and the mighty swells of ocean waves. Her name means "the capable one."

Her name was also chosen because it bore similarity to the Greek root "di-", meaning twice or double, thus denoting this as the two-hundredth named asteroid.

The symbol of this minor planet is an ocean wave, with a vertical line bisecting it, representing two-ness or duality.
