2008 Konstitutsiya

This minor planet is named after the Russian word for "constitution." It was named in honor of the third consitution of the Soviet Union which was established in 1977, sometimes called the Brezhnev Constitution. Interestingly, this constitution was adopted in October, and the name of this minor planet was published before November.

The symbol for this minor planet is the sickle-and-hammer combination which symbolized the Soviet Union for most of its existence, and is also a symbol of communism throughout the world. Although the 1977 Constitution was hardly the first time this symbol was invoked, both are fitting and iconic symbols of the Soviet Union, so pairing them makes sense. The symbol is rendered as a Cerean sickle, with a small Thoran hammer crossing it horizontally, head on the left.
