2033 Basilea

This minor planet is named after the city of Basel, Switzerland, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Astronomical Institute at Basel University. This city is located at the meeting point of the Swiss, German, and French borders.

The symbol of this minor planet is taken from the city's historic coat of arms. It is a depiction of a bishop's crook, with a spiraled handle to the upper left, and a vertical can that splits into three.
