2307 Garuda
This minor planet is named after a legendary bird figure in Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain myth. He is the anthropomorphization of a kite, a bird of prey. In Hinduism, Garuda is a single figure, who often accompanies Vishnu as his mount, and likes to eat snakes. In Buddhism, they are a race of intelligent birds who war with the snake-like naga. The symbol for this minor planet is a kite (as the Aquila eagle) clutching a snake, and with a short horizontal line in the middle to represent the namaste pose. |
