34 Circe
34.png

This minor planet is named after Circe, a witch from Greek myth, variously a goddess or demigoddess or nymph. She is capable of transformation magic, and has extensive knowledge of plants and herbs. She is well-known for her role in the Odyssey.

The symbol of this asteroid is moly, the herb that is used by Odysseus to protect himself from Circe's magic. It is represented as a curved flower with its bulb hanging downward.
