456 Abnoba

This minor planet is named after a goddess from Gaulish (Celtic) myth. Inscriptions of her name exist in the modern-day Black Forest in Germany, and also in several locations in Rome, where she is directly associated with the Roman goddess Diana. The etymology of this name is tangled up with the names of multiple rivers and mountain ranges in Europe.

The symbol of this minor planet is simply a river (water wave symbol) crossing a mountain, the juxtaposition of her two associations, arranged to resemble the Latin letter A. This symbol is not to be confused with the symbol for Jupiter XLVII Cyllene, which differs by the presence of a Jovian cross.
