47 Aglaja
47.png

This minor planet is named after one of the three Charities from Greek myth, or Graces from Roman myth. She personifies splendor, along with Thalia , personification of abundance, and Euphrosyne, personification of beauty. Their parentage is sometimes contested; sometimes they are the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome. Aglaea is sometimes said to be the wife of Hephaistos.

The symbol of this minor planet is a hephaestean hammer over the Grace symbol, which is an abstract glyph of three women with their arms around each other, as they are often portrayed in illustration and sculpture.
