639 Latona
This minor planet is named after a titan from Roman myth. She is the mother of Phoebus Apollo and Diana by Jupiter. Her Greek counterpart is Leto. According to Ovid, she once turned Niobe to stone. The symbol of this minor planet is a composition of the symbols for Apollo and Diana. It consists of the Artemesian waxing crescent and arrow positioned to look like a bow pointing right, with Apollo's triangular bowstring pulled to the left with a solar dot in the middle empty space. |
