676 Melitta

This minor planet was named, by way of an alternate spelling, after the Greek nymph Melissa. In some tellings, Melissa was a nymph who was turned into a bee, and in others, she was one of the nurses of the infant Zeus, who fed him honey instead of milk.

This astronomical body was named by British astronomer Philibert Jacques Melotte. Draw your own conclusions there.

The symbol of this minor planet is a bee glyph, a vertical oval with two pairs of wings extending to make three stripes on the body, with a female cross beneath it.
