758 Mancunia

This minor planet is named after the city of Manchester, England. It is directly named after the Ancient Roman name for the city. Some consider it to have been the first industrialized city in the world, as it was the hotbed of the Industrial Revolution that began first in Britain. Today, it is the 5th largest city in the United Kingdom.

The symbol for this minor planet is derived from two symbolic elements of the city. It is a large bee glyph, as worker bees are a historical symbol for the industriousness that appear on Manchesters heraldic arms, with three negative-diagonal lines in the body of the bee, representing the rivers Irwell, Medlock and Irk which appear on the city's coat of arms.
