78 Diana
78.png

This minor planet is named after the Roman virgin goddess of the moon, hunting, and animals, and protector of women. Her Greek counterpart is Artemis, and her brother in either mythos is Apollo.

The symbol for this minor planet combines her lunar and hunting aspects. It is a waxing crescent (instead of the Moon's waning crescent, to represent her youth), with an arrow going right, as to suggest a bow with an arrow nocked.
