This minor planet is named after the Sun. More specifically, it is named after the studies of the solar spectrum done by Paschen and Runge .

The symbol of this minor planet is the symbol of the Sun, with two vertical lines crossing the left and right sides of it to represent hydrogen and helium spectral lines, and also the two physicists, with a Vestan plume above.
