9 Metis

Not to be confused with Jupiter XVI Metis; same referent.

This minor planet is named after the Greek titaness of deep thought. Her name means wisdom, skill, or cunning in Greek. The depictions of her range from prudence to tricksterism. She had an interesting relationship with Zeus: first she helped him overthrow Cronus, then they were a thing for a while, then Zeus ate her which led to the birth of Athena.

Greek myth is wild, y'all.

The classical symbol of this asteroid is an open eye with iris and pupil, with an asteroidal star above.
